Greetings, In the midst of chaos or calm, rhythm brings us back to the heartbeat of life!
Last month, we delved into Entrainment and Individualization, focusing not only on rhythm but also on the invigorating nature of polyrhythm.
In 2008, I completed my first certification at Village Music Circles to facilitate drum circles. It was an exhilarating challenge and a boundless creative outlet. The skills I developed in drum circle facilitation seamlessly transitioned into facilitating circle singing, which felt like a natural and wonderful progression.
My first marketing postcard declared, "Rhythm Is Magic!" and I still firmly believe in that magic.
I had the privilege of engaging in one-on-one counseling with Harris Zeff, an extraordinary individual who was a Trager bodywork practitioner, an actor, a workshop leader, and an overall remarkable being. He introduced me to numerous valuable practices, one of which was to practice alternating bilateral movements (ABM) during difficult times. But why did this help?
ABM engages both hemispheres of the brain, helps regulate the nervous system, mimics natural body movements, and releases endorphins.
Since rhythmic activities often incorporate ABM, they are an excellent way to shift our energy and soothe our nervous system. Oh yeah, and it's fun! Creating beats with others, whether through bodies or voices, fosters an environment where co-regulation, social connection, psychological regulation, emotional expression, exploration, and community integration are possible.
Let’s ground ourselves and reach for the cosmos, creating steady and inventive beats that enliven your cells, rewire your brain, and make playing with others a true joy!
Bring your bodies and voices to Sound Nourishment for some Sonic Shifting on:
