The Sound of Resilience!

reneebenmeleh7

Heartfelt Greetings Friend,

It’s been a minute…

I recently returned from the Arts in Health Research Primer at the UF Departments of Arts in Medicine followed by a sweet drop-in with my Moroccan and Greek Fam in S. FLA. I never miss an opportunity to dance at a Greek Festival. If you want to keep your cognition jumpin’, get your feet moving to some asymmetrical meters!

Lately, I’ve found myself observing in silence, absorbing the changes around me. It’s a shock that silences you, a reflexive response to the chaos and the growing dis-connect from a basic humanity that is both aware and considerate of the impact on nervous systems. Like an animal, still as stone, my body listens to inform my next steps.

This moment is bound in mourning, anger—sometimes even rage—and a firm dedication to justice and the shifting, elusive truth. When my body feels overwhelm, the release often comes through sound – off sessions alone or shared with friends. This is a refuge—and I also find solace in silence, for it allows me to connect not just with the stillness within, but with the storm that’s gathering—a storm of fierce bad-assery, ready to meet the moment with unyielding force.

I am recently re-inspired by some people, historical events, and personal experiences. I want to give a MASSIVE shout out to Representative Jasmine Crockett – deep respect for her courage!

Did you know that from 1987 to 1991, the people of Estonia led a powerful, non-violent movement known as The Singing Revolution? While many factors contributed to Estonia's eventual

independence, the movement's defining feature was the singing of patriotic songs—particularly rock songs—at large public gatherings, uniting the people in peaceful resistance. This shared act of song played a pivotal role in asserting national identity and fostering solidarity during a time of political upheaval. This powerful film can be streamed HERE!
